Our Mission Objective
As a parish in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, Indiana, we are one in spirit, faith and Catholicity. Our Christian presence in Richmond bespeaks of various ministries and charities that we undertake as good stewards. Of particular importance is the Seton Catholic schools through which we offer authentic education rooted in Christ and in spreading His Good news, raising saints for the glory of God.
St. Andrew parish was established in 1846 with the dedication of the first church. The second church was built in 1860 and was used by the parishioners until it was destroyed by a fire. The current parish church was completed in 1901. The parish school was built in 1912. St. Mary Parish was founded in 1860 when English speaking Catholics living in Richmond bought the old Lutheran meeting house at North 7thand North “A” street. A parish school was built in 1870. Ground was broken in 1909 to build the current church. The new church and rectory were competed in 1912 and was dedicated by Bishop J. Chartrand on November 9, 1913. Holy Family parish was established in 1953. On the Feast of the Holy Family in 1954, ground was broken to build the school building. The first Mass was celebrated in the gym in August of that same year. In 1977, ground was broken for the new church building with the first Mass being celebrated on Palm Sunday in 1979.
On July 1, 2016, all three parish communities were merged to become one vibrant Catholic community in Richmond, bearing the name of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, a saint who was a mother and teacher, pioneering in Catholic education in our country.
